Kidney stones
Anyone ever had them?

I'm astounded by how much it hurts when they're at their worst.

But I'm also amazed that (like now) there is just a dull ache in between bouts of pain. Sometimes a couple of hours with just an acceptable ache before being doubled up on the floor again.

Drinking and pissing for England in an attempt to pass them. Anyone been in this position? Arg.

Re: Kidney stones
Had them a couple of years back, never knew pain like it, but like youve said, would be bearable for a while then bang, doubled up in pain on the floor.

Went to the Walk in Centre the first morning i had them, only to have some fit young nurse telling me i needed suppositories the size of torpedos shoved up my arse..... that noise when she put the rubber gloves on still haunts me now

Re: Kidney stones
Mate has had them for a couple of months, keeps going in for sound blasting. My old man had them years ago, he was as hard as nails but said it was the worst pain he'd ever had.

Re: Kidney stones
I've had a helluver day. That's two nights and two days now. I thought I'd get referred back to hospital today but no - more of the same drugs - anti-cramp, cocodamol and supository - and instructions to just drink and pass the stones. Had 14 pints since 10am, got another four here, but hard to drink when it's grinding away. I've gone from rolling around in agony to watching TV calmy then agony again. Cyclical all day. The reports (and you lot) don't lie - it's excrutiating. Thanks for replying. Nice distraction :)

Re: Kidney stones
Had a spate of kidney stones first experience i got infection had two zapped in hospital for two weeks. 6 years later had another two removed. The main thing to prevent kidney stones is drink plenty of water, my problems only started after i gave up drinking.
The whole urology bit is undignified messy and painful, lets hope you don't have too many cystoscopies, Good luck

Re: Kidney stones
You have my sympathy, i had A Gall stone problem last year and ended up having my Gall bladder removed after a couple of 'rushed into casualty' boutsof serious and consistent pain. Glad to see the back of it.

I think they can zap kidney stones if push comes to shove (excuse the pun). Hope it all works itself out.......

Very painful. One treatment with an ultrasound bath and all was well.

Re: Kidney stones
Ag! Worst pain ever imaginable. I read somewhere that some women put the pain above giving birth.

The best you can do is flush the bastards out. Seriously just keep guzzling down water - it helped for me. Luckily, the water must've crushed them up so I hardly felt anything when pissing them out.

You'll ache for a few days once you've passed them though.
The doc gave me some seriously strong pain killers too...I forgot what they were called though.

Fivetide...don't envy you at all...my brother-in-law suffers terribly from them..they can be broken up using ultrasound I believe...good luck.
When I suffered from gallstones I found that a very hot bath eased the pain quite a lot..Viz calls it a Monkey Bath....when you get it,you go oooh ooh ooh..
